Crystal Cove Cami & Contest

Hi there!

I recently rediscovered a pattern designer called Itch to Stitch.  It's one I found on Pinterest a year or so ago because they have a couple of free patterns that look like something I'd wear. And who doesn't love free sewing patterns?

They just came out with a super cute cami called the Crystal Cove Cami*. It has an overlapping, curved hem back, which is very on-trend right now. Bonus: it's flowy but still has shape.  Perfect for my newfound postpartum pooch. Or that low-carb diet pooch.  It comes in sizes 00-20 and the pattern accommodates for different cup sizes so there's no need for adjustments.  Perfect for the beginner seamstress who doesn't have experience in pattern adjustments or tailoring.  Or, you know, for those of us who don't want to mess with it.  ahem.  There's something to be said for not having to mess with a pattern.  It's that convenience that has me starting on a second cami. And probably third and fourth.

I give this pattern a big two thumbs up.  It was quick and easy.  Working during Little Man's naps, I was able to get it done in about three sessions.  If you don't have to tip-toe around or keep checking on an infant, you could easily whip one of these out in an hour. That includes putting together the pattern, cutting out the fabric, to the finishing stitches.  Another bonus is that it doesn't require much fabric or extra knickknacks.  If you have 7/8 - 1 & 3/8yd of fabric and a tiny bit of interfacing lying around, you can make one of these tonight.

I like how it turned out.  I used a piece of black silk that I've been holding onto forever.  This seemed like the perfect pattern for it.  If you don't want to work with silk, the pattern was designed with a lightweight woven material in mind - like a thin cotton.

Now don't think that the back of this top flies open and that you have to wear another cami underneath.  I'm 2 months postpartum and none of my pants fit so I'm still employing that fun hair tie looped around the button trick.  Since the Crystal Cove cami isn't long enough to cover my fly, I needed another layer to hide by XYZ (examine your zipper).

Because I worked with silk, I decided to use French Seams to piece the panels together.  It's a stronger seam for the delicate fabric that also prevents fraying.

As a new SAHM, I find myself wearing my hair in a bun more than I care to admit.  But thanks to a little hair jewelry and some Pinterest DIY's, I'm finding new ways to style it.  What do you think?

How does this relate to the contest I mentioned??  Because that super stylish bun cuff* by Jen Atkin x Chloe + Isabel is the prize!  There are multiple ways to enter, including by making and submitting a picture of you in your Crystal Cove Cami!  The contest will open tomorrow and run through Friday, July 6th.  The winner will be announced on Sunday, July 8th. Ways to enter will be announced on my Facebook page.

The necklace I'm wearing is the La Lune Sculpted Collar necklace from Chloe + Isabel.  You can find it here.* The collection also includes earrings,* a cuff* and stackable rings.*

Sewing Closet Redo: The Cabinet

I have a pretty great hubby dubs. He built this cabinet for me. Doesn't it look great! It give the closet a fantastic built in look and provides a bunch of storage for my bulky fabrics.  The top drawer is shorter than the bottom two, making it perfect for all those sewing notions that I need, but don't use often.  Like elastic and Velcro.    The wheels lock so I can open the drawers without pulling the cabinet halfway across the room.  I just love it. He built it in the same style as our nightstands. In my head this provides continuity in our house. I don't know that anyone else really cares about that. Oo la la! I can slide it out from under the desk so I still have that workspace and can access my fabric storage in the wings of the closet.  But, wait... SHAZAAM! That, my friends, is a drop leaf extension.  I wanted a drop leaf in the closet but unfortunately it just wouldn't work out. We talked through a bazillion plans and they all had major

How To Not Mess Up Glitter HTV

Hey my peoples!  I took a short break to finish up some much needed spring cleaning.  But have no fear--I'm back! And I'm back with a tutorial on how to work with Glitter Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV).        Materials Design Weeding Tools (if applicable) Glitter HTV Shirt Vinyl Cutter (I use the Silhouette Cameo) Marking Pen (optional) Parchment Paper or Pressing Cloth Tile or hard pressing surface 1. Cut out your design. (Skip this step if you purchased one pre-cut).     Two tips on this step if you're cutting out your design:  Remember to mirror your design in the software. DON'T cut your glitter HTV with the glittery side up!! It will come out backwards! So unless you plan on reading your shirt in the mirror... These two steps are essential.  The adhesive is on the back side of the vinyl and a protective, clear plastic is on the front.  You don't want to cut through that sheet of plastic.  That's what allows you to transfer
